Why watch this film?
After 20 years of marriage, Maria decides to leave. She moves to the room 212 of the hotel opposite her marital home. From there, Maria can scrutinize her apartment, her husband, her wedding. She wonders if she has made the right decision.
"Richard and Maria are in crisis. The couple, brilliantly portrayed by Chiara Mastroianni ('Persepolis') and Benjamin Biolay ('Personal Shopper'), spiral into a series of accusations, sorrows, and finger-pointing. After all, he discovers that Maria is being unfaithful, sleeping around with younger guys. He, meanwhile, swears up and down that he is faithful. From there, inventive filmmaker Christophe Honoré ('Love Songs') begins to follow his wife to a hotel room, right across from their home. There, through interesting visual interventions from the director and a narrative that provokes and intrigues, with a strong psychological aspect behind it—after all, in this hotel age, Maria looks at herself and her life with a confident gaze with the viewer, almost as if she were winking at the audience. It's not Honoré's best film, but it will certainly please those looking for a good romantic dramedy from , as only the French can do."
